Can a GPO deliver s/w that isnt MSI ?

By waldekev ·
Group Policy works nicely in delivering s/w using MS Installer - can it be used to deliver things like Winzip and Adobe Acrobat without having to create an MSI package ?

Can a GPO deliver s/w that isnt MSI ?

Yes but it has to be a ZAP file, MST File or a MSP File. ZAP files are probably the most common as they are "Initilazation Files" that will allow you to publish non MSI files. They provide a link to a standard execution file, setup.exe. Microsoftsuggests to use only MSI files and to create those, you'll need some software to take a before and after snapshot of your software. Windows comes with the software on the CD under "E:\VALUEADD\3RDPARTY\MGMT\WINSTLE" where E: is your cd drive. Thissoftware is free from Veritas. Hope this helps, Jeremy
