Hi, first of all, I owe much appreciation to anyone who can help me here. I recently bought and built a new computer, as did two of my brothers. I got mine up and running wonderfully, and started working on my elder’s comp (he’s stationed in Korea and can’t work on it at the moment).
After finishing his case, I powered on, and the LCS started sucking liquid, but the monitor said ‘no signal input.’ This monitor worked 10 minutes before, so I thought it to be a bit strange, so I brought in another, and it too said the same thing. I tried narrowing down the problem by swapping different components and such, including different GPUs, and using only 1 stick of ram, then using the other, then tried it without. I figure my PSU doesn’t have a problem, as I was using it before I stick it in his case, and now am using my own PSU. I also reset the CMOS.
So by process of elimination, I guessed it would either be the mobo or the processor. I took out his processor and stuck it in my machine, and took my processor out and stuck it in his, then turned them both on. Both had ‘no signal input’ showing. I then put the processors back in their initial machines. I boot mine up… no signal. Boot his up, no signal.
So somehow this mobo of his is ‘eating’ whatever processor I stick in there, making it corrupt as well. I don’t dare try using my younger brother’s new processor. Does this make any sense, that a motherboard could corrupt a processor (or the other way around?) technically? I’m fairly sure I didn’t shock anything with static electricity (I was grounded most of the time), though there is a chance that that is what happened, but I doubt it.
It’s very frustrating watching hundreds of dollars disappear, but fortunately the MFG still warranties the procs, and newegg still allows RMAs for the mobos, but I’m afraid once I get new ones, and rewire the new stuff, I’ll get the same problem (whether this is a logical fear, I’m not yet quite sure).
PS: I’ve searched google quite a bit searching for this no signal thing, and basically what it comes down to is it could be anything in the case that uses electricity. So that’s where I began singling out/swapping components.
