Can Active Sync wipe an iPhone when the user leaves

By miles.smith ·
Is it possible to configure active sync so that if an employee decides to disconnect hier phone from the corp. network, the device will be wiped first. We are concerned about people using personal phones, then deciding to leave and taking corp contacts and data with them.

Only way to wipe an iPhone would be with MobileMe, AFAIK

Of course, you cannot just wipe somebody's personal phone.

Plus, if the person knows that you are going to inspect their phone, they would copy what they need off the phone first.

Your best strategy here is to provide phones for the employees, that way you CAN monitor them and wipe them (the phones, not the employees),when you need to.

Exchange

In an exchange environment you can manually wipe an iPhone. This ability is also found in OWA so the user who owns the phone can do this on their own if they lost their phone. Just do a search on the Internet about this and you will find lots of info. Of course this does not touch the legal or personal aspect of wiping someones personal phone. I would recommend creating a policy that says no personal phones otherwise I think you are going to have major HR or legal issues. I did see a post that said if you delete the relationship to an iPhone that it will delete the corporate email and contacts off the phone, but that won't get rid of anything they sync'd with their home PC (remote wipe won't either).
