By jbad_1 ·
I am looking for a position that I can move into with SQL Server, Windows NT and 2000. Active Server Pages and Web enterface for SQL Server backend. I am a DBA, I just recently got my PH.D. I have 17 years of experience. The company I am with todayfear me since they are not doing backup as the should be doing them. My name is on the line if the data get corrupt. If some one can help me please let me know.

I would look at the major websites for job searches. If you really want to move you might look at hiring a professional jobhunter. If you are in WA or are willing to move, checkout www.laborready.com, search for jobs in tacoma,wa the corporate office. The development team has had many good positions.

The major job sites are great for people with your skills (monster, dice, computerjobs). They let you choose the location or skill set that is best for you.

One major warning though...don't get cought looking on the job. If they already fear you, they will walk you right out!

Good luck!

Discreet networking with key recruiters, decision makers, and others will be your best bet. Random posting your resume online to major job boards without some kind of cloaking, could jeopardize your current situation. Unless you are planning to enter a Research and Development arena (an area which would welcome someone with a PhD), I would not place on your resume the fact you have a PhD because that may deem you as "overqualified" or place some other kind of negative first impression.
Network with those who specialize in your sector of specialization (including key trade associations).
Make sure whether it is DBA or another venue, you pursue something you enjoy doing. Go for the long term challenge rather than the change of scenery or promise of earnings.
