This is my first post to techrepublic.com any input is greatly appreciated. I am an admin at a local Mercedes Benz dealership here in my state.
I just got done installing a new Dell Poweredge server loaded with Windows Server 2008. It acts as my domain controller, DNS, DHCP, and print server. We also have IIS turned on for a future intranet we will be installing. This all works just fine.
Here is my problem: I have installed a program from Mercedes Benz that will act as a price catalog for our parts department and I receive quarterly updates to this.
In order for my client machines to access this program they have to go to the http site associated with this program that is automatically installed during the install discs. My client machines are not able to get to this http site that is hosted on the server, they get an “Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage” error. If I am on the server I can get to the localhost just fine so I know the program is working. Also I will interject that I know not to use http://localhost.xxx on my client machines, I have tried http://serverip.xxx, as well as http://servername.xxx in case it was a DNS issue.
I have had this program installed on a regular desktop computer in the past and have had no connection issues. It does not use IIS in anyway.
I have also turned off the firewall on the server to rule that out as well.
Any idea how I can get my client machines to connect to this http site hosted by my server? Seems like some sort of security issue.
