Hello Ken,

As you're using Norton AV on XP, I'll point you to Symantecs' website for full recovery intructions. Just follow it to the letter and this will rid you of your virus.

Goto http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/backdoor.fivsec.html#removalinstructions

Then, if you already haven't, install XP SP2 from here http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx and using Windows Update, keep updating every month.

Hope this helps and let us know the outcome.

You have spyware on your machine. If you don't have any scanners for this, get Spybot and Microsoft AntiSpyware (MS only works if you have XP), make sure you update your scanners, reboot in Safe Mode and scan from there. Delete any malware found and rescan with both programs until they don't detect any more files.

Follow the following instructions for trojan removal. This is a trojan.

Backdoor.Fivsec is a Trojan horse that opens a back door on a randomly chosen TCP port.

Follow the Directions Symantecs Site:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/backdoor.fivsec.html

You have the solution what you find is this answers, but just one important think.
Before you make some modifications in registry, to delete the backdoor.fivsec don?t forget to turn off the system restore on all drives. This you can do with right click on My Computer->Properties->System Restore and check Turn off System Restore on all drives.
