Can hackers exploite port 21,25,80,110?

By dhuynh ·
We're sitting behind a Netscreen firewall with 4 ports open for services (21 FTP,25 MAIL,80 HTTP and 110 POP3). All servers have virtual IP. Is it possible for hackers to enter our network through those ports, and if yes, is there a way to find out or to stop them?
Thanks.

Can hackers exploite port 21,25,80,110?

Answer #1 containes good resource, but it just tests if you have ports open. It does not test actually systems vulnerability.

You should evaluate your systems itself. If it's MS products, look for all patches and upgrades. Look for security scanners (something like Retina or Network Security Scanner). These systems will scann your system and report if you have real vulnerability in your servers itself (like bufer overflow, invalid permissions, etc) and in most cases will give to you an recomendations, how to fix it.

If it's UNIX systems, you may use either use UNIX security scanners (like SATAN), or similar security scanner.

Some software has ability to use it as "evaluation version", for example, a few days or to scan one host, so you can decide which ysstem better fits to your requirements.

And again, since you know which services you have exposed into the Internet, you should evaluate your systems internally specificly for these services.
