Can I centrally set folder options in domain?

By MakeItSo ·
At our school, we have moved to XP clients in a W2K domain. We have a Group Policy to prevent access to Folder Options in the Tools menu in Windows Explorer. The students are complaining that each folder now opens in a new window and I can see that this is a bit of a pain.
Is there a way to set the 'display in same window' folder option centrally - as it appears to be a per user setting in XP - without removing this policy?

I scoured the GPO settings as well as the registry itself and was unable to locate any method for modifying one folder option setting and applying it to a GPO. Your best bet would be to allow the Folder Options changes, make the adjustment manually on each workstation, and then deny the changes. The problem is that it may only apply to the currently logged on user and not any new users who sit at the machine. I wish there were a better method, but I don't think there is.

Hope that helps!

I had already tried to change the setting as a local administrator to no avail - it must be a per user setting. I don't want to turn off the policy to allow changes as there are about 14 different classes in a weeek, so I'd have to do it for each class.
