Can I change color setting ?

I have a NEC AMD 450 mhz k6-2 processor with 128MB of RAM running Win98.

Now for my question:

My kids have several games that require 256 colors in order to run. And even a few games that require 16 bit color to run. When they want to playone of these games, I have to change the monitor color setting to the appropriate value.

What I would like to do is create a file that would do the following:

1. change the monitor color setting to 256 colors.
2. start the game.
On exit from the game:
3. change the monitor color setting back to
16 bit.
