Can I control tape drive in ntbackup?

By rsmith ·
Using Windows 2000 server with a Seagate travan tape drive. I can't get control of erase, retension etc of tape drive. Backups are sporadic to non existant. Drive message says the new tapes are the wrong format, but how do I format them with no control over tape drive.

Any insite would be fabulous.

Thanks anyone.

Can I control tape drive in ntbackup?

by McKayTech In reply to Can I control tape drive ...

Microsoft did an interesting thing in Windows2000 and moved the tape management into a module separate from NTBackup. It's now managed by an MMC plug-in called Removeable Storage Manager.

Open an MMC window by clicking Start-Run and typing MMC in the command box. Then click on Console, Add/Remove Snapin and look for the Removeable Storage Manager. From there, you should be able to get the low-level control you need.

regards,

paul
