Can I copy CAB files for Office 2000?

By fester_ml ·
I am trying to deploy Office 2000 and I want to install the cab files with office2000 so that users do not have to call me everytime they want to add a component. I know this can be done with all the Windows OS. Is there any way to do this with Office?

the best way to do this is to create an admin installs of Office 2000 (setup /a) and then to share it out. Also do all installs from this location that way the system always knows where to look.
hope this helps

I know how to do the admin share, but we want to be able to uninstall and install without being linked with the server after we do the initial push to all the desktops.

There is an option on the Office 2000 CD that will allow you to install all the components to the HD. Do the custom setup and when you get to the screen where you can click and get a drop down menu, Choose the Option that say RUN ALL FROM COMPUTER.

When they needs a component installed, it will run from the computer.

You have several different option to do this..

#1. Create an administrative installation point on the server.
#2. Using the CD install all of the components on the local machine.
#3. (My Favotire) create an instalation point on a network server. Using Office Resource Kit (available freely on the MS website) customize the installation point so it (a.) looks for files on the network share point (b.) if that share is not available then look at an alternative location, which can be a local drive i.e. C:\cabs\OffCabs.

Also, with Office Res Kit, there are lot more options you can customize.
