Can i dock my laptop to a tower for extra RAM ect.?

I have a Dell Insprion 6400 with 1GB RAM, XP SP2, which is plenty for me when I’m on the road but can lag when I’m doing heavy work with photoshop and illustrator.

I normally only work on these big projects at home so I wonder if it’s possible to set up a tower at home and kit is out with extra RAM etc so that I could dock my laptop to for extra power?

Is this possible? If not, is there another alternative?
