Can I Partition an Existing Harddisk

I have Harddisk installed with win xp.....out of 40 GB i have 34 GB free..i intend to partition the remaining space into 3 partition without loss of possible data....tht means without formating can this be achieved.....and is it safe....bcuz if this partition needs to b made. it cud be ...virtual....so will tht have any prob with table space...and other details

The answer is YES, but you need an utility for this, like Partition Magic.

Make sure you make a backup of your hard disk first. Partition Magic is nice, but I've also seen it royally mess up your existing info.

Don't use partiotion magic!!!!
It will affect the hard drive and you will have to reformat it. You are better off using Partition Manager.
