Can I upgrade from W2K Server to XP Pro?

By TWP-II ·
I have a system running W2K Advanced Server, but really do not need the server OS. I would like to 'upgrade' to XP Professional while retaining the currently installed applications. Any suggestions on how I can do it? The installation CD does not seem to support this.

Your upgrade path is to Windows 2003 Enterprise Server.

I know about a server upgrade, but don't need it and did not want to spend the money for it.

It is not possible to 'upgrade' a server OS to a client OS. You will have to do a fresh install and then re-install your applications.

Hope this helps :-)

*If you have a version of the Windows server operating system, check out the Windows Server 2003 site's upgrading area. The server operating systems are not eligible for upgrade to Windows XP.

Agree with Ed....do a fresh install

Its not a 'normal' upgrade, even if you were
successful, you may have problems. Better off with a fresh install of what you really want.

why wud u wanna keep server apps in ur intended client pc (xp)?
why ask for trouble?
it is easier to moved the data out and then do a fresh install of xp then install the client apps and use the data u hv backup.
