Can I upgrade this processor?

By wompai ·

I've got this Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Notebook. It has an Intel Pentium M Centrino Mobile 1.5GHz processor. I searched on the internet and found that it's a 478-pinned processor. Can it be upgraded to an Intel Celeron D (3.01GHz, 478-pin) or an Intel Pentium 4 (2.4GHz, 478-pin)?

Thanks in advance

You are going to have to pull the CPU Heatsink here

And see if the CPU is socketed or soldered directly to the M'Board.

If it's in a Socket you may be able to replace it with something faster but if it's soldered to the M'Board you are stuck with that CPU.

Also when you open the NB you can check to see which CPU you actually have and work from there.

The exact Model of the NB would be helpful but most times you can not move dramatically up in CPU's from what is currently fitted. Just because you have a Certain Socket Type doesn't mean that the M'Board uses every CPU of that Socket type particularly when it comes to the Intel Range as they tend to use the same socket type over several generations of CPU.

If you want to improve performance stick in as much RAM as the M'Board can address.

As I said, the exact type of processor is the Intel Pentium M. It runs at 1500MHz. Here are some more detailed specs about it:

As you can see its an Amilo M7400, has 512MB DDR SODIMM memory which runs at 266MHz. It has 2GB of max memory.
