Can I use this Ram ?

By Dr.Jackson ·
Hello, My PC has a 512mb Ram, PC3200,DDR400 mhz.My mainboard manual says PC2100,DDR266mhz up to PC3200,DDR400 I just bought a new stick 512mb "via" Internet, and they sent me a PC4000,DDR500mhz. Now,will this work in my system at a lower value like the DDR400mhz or should I send it back. Thanks, Kenny

Hello, I tried it and it didn't work. As a matter of fact it wouldn't even boot up. I've done this before on other PC's and it worked, but in this case the larger Ram was to much for the M/B. I'll just take it back for one with the same value. Thanks anyway, Kenny

First of all, it depends on the motherboard (MB).

Second, it is not recommended to install a faster RAM. It does not make your system faster. Sometimes faster RAM makes the system unstable or slower.

Third, call or e-mail Tech Support of the MB.

Hello, I should have had your advice sooner. I tried it and it wouldn't even boot up. I wasn't trying to make it faster, I was just hoping for more Ram. The Ram that's already in this is the fastest the M/B can handle. So, I'll just take it back for one with the same value. Thanks anyway, Kenny
