Can not access computers on a windows XP network – Tried everything!

by ubernerdy . Updated 18 years, 4 months ago

I have two computers on a network, one a laptop and another a desktop. Both run the same version of Windows XP pro with SP2.

The desktop: When i try to access the laptop, i get an account login dialog. Nothing i enter works, even if it is a real account and password.

The laptop: When i try to access the desktop, everything works fine. Shared folders show up in the network places.

On both coputers, i have:

– disabled simple file sharing
– set proper permissions on shared folders
– set HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\restrictanonymous to 0
– set the services: computer browser, windows firewall, server to automatic and started

I want:

Everything to work the other way around like it does from the laptop, that is not get a login box but be able to access shared folders from windows explorer.

Ideas?
