Can not change Video adapter

By tim.newport ·
I am trying to change the video adapter on a Nt 4.0 svc pac 6a server. When I try to change the driver a get a message stating that I do not have the necessary permisions. I checked the user policies and I have the authorizations needed to perform this action.

Even though your user MAY have correct permissions, try it while logged in as Admin not an equivalent.

I'm womdering if it is a machine specific rights problem as opposed to a network rights issue.

Your adapter files probably wouldn't install unless the machine itself thinks you had admin rights as it is making an internal system change.

Then again, I could be hopelessly wrong.

I am using the administrator account while trying to change the adapter.

make sure that the administrators account was not accidentally removed from the volume, folder, or driver files. I had this happen once. If this is the case you do have permission to re-add permissions to yourself (funny).

Also, you can pull the card out, boot up, shutdown, and add the card, maybe it will let you pick a driver for it then (just a thought)

Have you tried re-installing the service pack before changing the drivers for the video adapter?
