Can not detect Serial Mouse msg.

By robert.walsh ·
Windows 95, during startup, no longer sees my logitech serial mouse. My attempts to improve this have no luck so far. I tried another good mouse to the 9pin connector with same results. I tried improving the connection tightness on the pc back paneland on the motherboard where the ribbon cable connects. I tried the alternate serial connection on the mother board after that. Is there something to reset or check I missed in the software? I loaded the mouse driver, either as logitech or standarddefault, and even removed and added the mouse to the system. Still does not detect it for some unknown reason? Help.

Can not detect Serial Mouse msg.

are you sure the serial port is still good? ie, can you open up hyperterminal or some other comm program, take a paper clip and touch pins 2 and 3 and then type some chars to see if they show up on the screen.

also, did the serial ports get disabled in the CMOS config.

if both those two things are ok, try going to device manager and removing the serial ports, then reboot and let Windows put them back automatically.

Can not detect Serial Mouse msg.

Found this myself on MS KnowledgeBase by accident:
Logitech Mouse Stops Working When Used with Modem on COM2

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article Q136790 - Logitech Mouse Stops Working When Used with Modem on COM2 applies to:

Microsoft Windows 95

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
When you are using a Logitech mouse model M-M30 or cc-93-9f on COM1,and you have a modem connected to COM2, the mouse may stop working.

I will look at this answer closely tonight!!

Can not detect Serial Mouse msg.

by robert.walsh In reply to Can not detect Serial Mou ...

Q136790 did not fix my mouse related issue, but on the flip side did get my modem connected to com1. Com2 is open and disabled, ready for my Mouse, if he were to be detected! In device manager, if I did this right, I set up a mouse with a standarddriver, and attached another no-major-name brand mouse to the serial port. So device manager expects the Serial Mouse (9pin), and thinks com2 is OK to use for it. CMOS on boot up has the com2 port in Disabled status. It seems that is all I need to do and just boot it up. Still it pops up the error message that the serial mouse is not detected. Any other ideas? I have an unused 9pin next to the first one I will try tonight, again but tried this before. Any help appreciated!
