Can not open port (for Modem)?

By robert.walsh ·
Windows 95 error message appears, when I click on More Info, for Diagnosis. The Modem and driver appear normal in Control Panel and System Devices, showing the available COM2 port for this standard internal modem used, with status of working without conflicts. COM1 is the port the mouse uses, and no other ports in use. What steps to resolve? I tried removing the port and removing the modem and adding both several times. What might I be doing incorrectly?

This was the first step I took, and with some luck after rebooting several times it recoginized the modem. Thanks to you and what else I could find on the MS Knowledgebase about bugs with modems and logitech mouse combinations

Try the the above solution as well it could also solve you problem if not read on..

OK you've tried another modem good ,that rulez out that now what you can try do is check the following:
1.Do you have any thing in the start up Prog group,if so what(fax programs often "grab" the port waiting for incoming faxes, other programs and utilites also sometimes will try use the port)

2.look in the win.ini the 2nd and 3rd line
Load=
Run=
look whats been run add a ";" to commnet out the command if your unsure what it does and restart.

3.another thing you can try is ^restart once you get the 2nd win95 screen hold down the right shift on the keyboard(this by passes some programs and drivers that are stated during the startup. see if the modem works
if yes then a program that automaticly is responsiable.

Hope that help if not we can try something else.
