    Can not open volume for direct access.

    Hello,
    When i turn on PC run NT40 and after the NT40 starts to load on the Blue Creen that tell you the version of your Service Pack, and your memmory. Under that line it came up a error that i have not seen it before. It said: “can not open volumefor direct access” if you know what mean,please let me know i greatly appreciate that.

      Have you recently changed anything relating to your drives? Added a new one, changed drive letters? Can you boot from vga mode? Either your drive has become damaged, or your settings have been changed to something incorrect. If you drive is intact, you can do a paralell install and move the hive.

      My first question would be what SP you are using? there is a known bug with SP4 (I beleive) that deals with restricted access to DMA upon boot. Did you make any recent software changes? It may also have to do with the removal and deletion of an active pagefile.sys.
