Can not view Task Manager

On a W2K pro server, when I try to view the task manager, it will either take me back to the desktop (and the task manager icon will appear in the sys tray)and each time I try it will do the same. OR it will take me to a blank desktop and when either happens I am then forced to reboot.

I tried to load the TS client today and got an error: WOWEXEC caused a GPF in module KRNL386.exe at 0001:1F69

I think the two are related, I am new at this and any advise would be greatly appreciated.
