Can Win 98 workstation screen saver effe

By plymouthibc.eng ·
I have a friend at his work, he got the below email.

"For those of you with a screen saver in operation, please disengage it immediately. I have been informed by several experts that our NT net work does not like them, and they could be causing some of our server problems."

I have never run into this problem on remote machine screen savers effecting a server. Is this something, I should change on my LAN setup? Explain how can remote machine screen saver with power management off effect server operation?

The only thing that I have ever heard about screen savers and server performance was on the server. That you should only ever use the black screen or the Logon screen saver, all others will utilize as much memory and CPU as possible on the server.

The only case I can think of is if you are running a thin client like Terminal Server, in which case the Screen saver commands would run accross the network and could drain the Server.

The only problem I know with screensavers effecting the server is the type that go to the internet and grab pics off of web sites like Webshots. Other than that I have never heard or had a problem with screensavers on my network. I do know for certian that Webshots does cause somewhat of a performance issue to the internet on some servers.

I haven't heard of, or experienced any problems either. I would think only those screensavers that read data from some source other than the local computer would cause any issues.
