I have a core 2 quad q9300 @2.50ghz, team extreme 1066 2gb of ram. power color 3870 ati 256 bit 512mb video card. Gigabyte ep45-dq6 motherboard. 1 500gb and 1 1Tb saegate Hard drive. 1 optical drive. my power supply is 500w huntkey and its all working fine. now Im planning to buy a Thermaltake Level 10 GT which comes with free Toughpower 1200W. I just want to know since its a 1200w power supply would it cost more energy than before when i only got a 500w power supply? Thank you in advance!!

Easy answer is yes it's going to use more power than a 500W power Supply.

Despite what should happen higher wattage power supplies use more power on the same hardware than a smaller power supply.

For instance a Antec 500 W PS running a i7 CPU on a Gigabyte M'Board with 5 X 2 TB HDD, 16 GIG of RAM, a 4 GIG Video Card and so on uses 7 KW Hours per day but the same hardware with a 750 W Antec PS it uses 9 KW Hours.

Same hardware, same meter, same on time 24 Hours per day 7 days per week and 2 KW Hours more a day averaged over a 25 day period.
