Unless you're talking about virtual machines.

Point is: The registry deals with the OS and things within the OS. Processor speed and overclocking is mainly a BIOS setting.

Well, if you WANT to drain your computers battery as quickly as possible when not connected to AC power, then it's enough to adjust your "Power management" settings in the control panel. One of the settings is whether the processor should be allowed to go DOWN in speed if there's not too much work going on, especially while you're running on batteries.

Hang on! Can you rephrase?

To most people on this forum, a processor is the central electronic circuit in the computer.
This processor can do A LOT in five seconds, even if it is 5 years old. (If it's still working, of course.) I mean, we're talking about handling millions of instructions per second.

So, can you recall where and in what situation your computer stopped waiting for 5 seconds? (During start-up of computer or what.)

Oh, at the same time, what type of system do you have? (you know, XP, Vista, Win7 etc. Since you're talking about the registry, I take for granted we're dealing with some flavor of Windows.)

You know what that sounds like?

It sounds more like the show delay on things like the Start Menu.

well, guess I didn't really make myself clear. I did adjust my processor reaction time through an article here at techrepublic. thought I had it saved in my emails..but can't find it. the adjustment was through a registry hack. It put the processor reaction time to zero instead of 5 seconds. It was in 1 of techrepublc's newsletters..
