Hey, I just dug out an old A1314 (bluetooth Apple Wireless Keyboard) and I’m trying to use it with my M1 MacBook Air. It connects, but show the firmware at 0.5.0. I know there’s an update, but the update utility on Apple’s website doesn’t work (gives me an error message “Your keyboard does not need this update. It already has the updated functionality”). Any idea how to update the firmware? Do I need an older Mac? Thanks for any help.

You seem to know something that Apple doesn’t know itself. Better contact their customer service or an authorised Apple shop to clear up the misunderstanding.

What features of the keyboard don’t work with the current firmware?

      see what Apple says but,
instead of an older Mac, perhaps you need a newer keyboard.

It is possible that the firmware on your A1314 keyboard is already up to date and that the update utility on Apple’s website is not detecting it correctly. The firmware version 0.5.0 is the latest version available for the A1314 keyboard.

If you’re experiencing issues with the keyboard, you may want to try resetting it by turning it off, then pressing and holding the power button until the LED indicator starts flashing. Then, release the power button and wait for the LED to stop flashing. This should reset the keyboard and may help resolve any issues.

If you’re still having issues with the keyboard after resetting it, you may want to try using it with a different device to see if the issue persists. If the issue does persist, it may be a hardware problem with the keyboard and you may need to consider replacing it.
