Cannot add icons, shortcuts to Desktop

I cannot add icons or Shortcuts to a win xp desktop. i have tried creating a shortcut and draging it to the desktop and nothing happens no error nothing and i have tried the send to command from the right click menu, nothing happens please help have searched everywere not articales.

From wat u said, I recommend you try right-click at the desktop---->New---->Shortcut then follow the instructions and point to the programs or folder you want to create a shortcut

You may want to check your group policy, if you are on a domain based network, with server 2003

Hi

This is usually due to permissions. If the PC is located in a domain, you need to make sure your user account has been added to the power-users group of the PC you are working on before you can save/create files on the Desktop.

Thank You to all. I found out that the user profile was courpt and the user had removed the desktop ini and the desktop folder from the local setting directory for that user. recreated the profile and everything works great now. thanks
