Under Security, click one of the following check boxes to select it:

Also under Method 1 above make sure the “TLS 1.0” option is not choosen. Alot of websites do not support that protocol.

One more thing to try:
To resolve this problem, use Registry Editor to remove the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\Schannel
NOTE: This registry key is rebuilt when you start Internet Explorer. -

Make sure internet options/connection tab/lan settings/automatically detect settings is unchecked. You can also try the setup button on the connection tab and going through the setup wizard.

What stikes me is : these 2 work, this one doesn’t, so what’s the difference? Are all 3 machines on 98 and the same version of IE?
If possible, I’d compare the settings on one that works with the settings on the one that doesn’t. Simplistic: yes. Would it work? What have you got to loose…..?-

One more possible solution to try. Microsoft has a patch for this particular problem. You can find and read about it here:

I notice that copy and paste seems to insert spaces in the links, so make sure to delete any spaces in the URL above.

The above suggestions are very knowledgable.
But if it is not solving your problems: try the following in order (if (1) cannot help; then use (2); until the problem is solved.
1) Do you have upgraded to 128 bit encryption too?
2) Don’t try IE 5.5! Some computers have extreme problems after “upgrading” to it.
3) control panel –> remove programs –> choose IE –> repair
4) Run –> sfc
5) Un-install the sp1 and re-install it again; if it does not help. UN-install the IE 5.0 also; and re-install IE 5.0 and 5.01.-
