my setup is a server 2003 that employees connect to through a sonicwall ssl vpn . currently I have users running windows xp pro that can print to their local shared printers through the vpn connection. My Boss is now trying to do the same I have installed windows xp Pro and all the latest updates I have installed the printer and shared it. the windows firewall is currently off. remote desktop local devices the printer is checked as well as drives and serial ports. I initiate a connection trough sonicwall netextender the listed ip address is 192.168.1.182. after logging into the server I check the printers and the lexmark x63 is there so I try to send a test print the icon shows up breifly in the taskbar then disappears no errors just like it printed. however if I flip over to the local desktop and look in the print queue I see 1 job listed as printing then it says deleting
and then POOF! it disappears no error and definetely o print. I jump back to the server side and try \\192.168.1.182 it lists the printer and shared folders I can browse the folders and access the files by reading or writing. now if Try to connect to the printer I get “windows cannot connect to the printer either the printer name was typed incorrectly or the specified printer has lost its connection to the server”. now I have encountered this before and and was able to rectify it by turning off simple file sharing that however did not help in this case and I am stumped and frustrated and this is the bosses computer so I am effed. So If a kind soul can point out the error of my ways I would be most greatful! thanks in advance
