Cannot copy [File Name]: Error performing inpage operation

By cornleg ·
I am getting the following error when copying PDF files from our network to my local PC

Cannot copy [File Name]: Error performing inpage operation.

This happens ONLY with adobe .PDF files. The strange thing is if I change the extension of the file from PDF to something else and then change it back to PDF the file can then be copied as normal. This does not work if I change the file name - just if I change the file extension.

I am running Win2000 5.00.2195 Service Pack 4. This is happening for everyone in my group with the same version. This does NOT happen for those with WinXP.

We are running Symantic antivirus 8.1.0.825 but it is locked down from changes as is most everything else on my PC.

Everything I found on MS site relates to removable media but this is straight from our network. I don't have many network details and am pretty weak in my knowledge of networks.

Anyone have any ideas?

What is the exact error being shown in the event log (the Apllication Log is the one most likely to be displaying the actual associated event).

Event Log

I have checked the Application, Security and System Logs in the Event Viewer and don't see any accociated entry. I generated the error multiple times and see no entries in the last several hours. Are there settings to change what is captured in the event log? Is the Event Viewer the proper place to look?

If I copy the text of the message box I get the following:

---------------------------
Error Copying File or Folder
---------------------------
Cannot copy [File Name]: Error performing inpage operation.

OK
