Cannot delete a user.

By kjames ·
We have 3 users in our user list that cannot be deleted. Using user manager for domains when we try and delete the user we get an error message saying: "The user does not belong to this group." The user has all necessary group membership. Get the same error message when trying to delete from command prompt using Net command. This is on a Windows NT 4.0 SP6.a network. Let me know if you need any more info.

Cannot delete a user.

I will assume that you are logged in with an account with the proper permissions to delete the account (domain admin, for example).
Try this: Rename each account to something else in User Manager.
Synchronize your domain in Server Manager.
Reboot your PDC.
Log in and try to delete the renamed accounts.

I have never run into this before, but I think that that would take care of it.
Hope this helps.

Yeah, we have Domain Admin rights. Anyways that didnt work, gives same error message. This one is weird, we have been battling it off and on for a few months.

Are you trying to perform this acount deletion from a ws or server? If from a ws, try it from the PDC.

In the groups box of that particular user, set the primary group to domain users (right now its set to something another group). After that you can delete it.
Very coinsedently I encountered that particular problem today.

You have to long in as the Systems Administrator who ha all the user rights then perform the task of deleting.
alternatively, Create a user with all the security rights then do all you need. Let me know if the task has been performed. OR As a last resort, backup all your data on a Zip/tape then Make a reinstallation afresh of your Nt server.

You should remove this user profiles from a computer by using the Delete User Profiles command in Windows NT Setup. (The Setup program protects you from deleting the profile for the currently logged on user.)
