Cannot delete file from Windows XP server

By ecrwn ·
I was testing my backup tapes and did a restore to a Windows XP server. Now I can't delete the restored directory because there is a file that keeps giving me this error when I try to delete it: "Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk." Any suggestions? I've already tried booting up in Safe mode.

i would use chkdsk utility first to check my hard drive for file system errors and to make sure the hard drive media is not going bad.
right-click your hard drive icon in my computer, then pick properties, then tools, then check this drive for errors. first do a fast check then a surface scan if no joy on the first. check the box that says 'fix errors'

Thanks,however, it didn't work. Is there a plan "B"?.

Its possible the computer wants the tape in the drive in order to delete the file off your hard drive. I know that doesn't make much sense, but I've seen this happen before. Part of the file might be linked to information on the backup tape. I would defrag the hard drive too just in case. Good Luck!

I also had problem like this. It was big headache for me for long time. But then I found , it saved me so much time!
