Cannot display this video mode

By jspaz ·
I am running Windows ME on an older desktop computer. I leave the computer on overnight with all applications closed. Lately, when I come in in the morning, I have a black screen with the message "Cannot display this video mode". I then have to reboot the system numerous times to get back to my Windows login. The system is an inexpensive clone with onboard video. I am wondering what the most likely source of the problem is.

Low system resources would be my first guess.

Try to lower you video resolution a bit. Maybe lower the refresh rate also...

Is this an CRT or LCD monitor?

it is not uncommon for video to not come out of suspend or powersaving mode correctly...maybe with an error message something like that...
but why now? anything happen lately?
watch the black screen carefully at boot up, from the very beginning. see if the cmos bios loads defaults. have you replace the cmos battery backup lately....see if turning off power management/power saving stuff in bios and in Control Panel Power/Hibernate has any effect on things...
