Cannot e-mail "OUT" from Network

By jeffmichaud ·
We can recieve e-mail but cannot send any out. Bellsouth says it is not them. The computer that has the ADSL can send mail, but nobody else on the network can. It says "TCP/IP connection was unexpectedly terminated by your mail server."

What type of network are you using? Home network with win95,98 or 2000? Have you set the properties for users for out side email?

We have Win2000 that has the ADSL Modem in it. Peer to Peer Netwqork with the other machines using Win98se. We have been running this way for several years no problems until 2 weeks ago. We have Internet Security for our Firewall and I even tried to shut it down and try to send mail.

are you using internet sharing connection or a router??? If so your server settings may have to be changed - if you self installed they usually will not support home networking - it enables you to hook up multiple computers threw a router, hub or switch and only pay for one account.

I'm guessing but i'm betting you used internet connection sharing in which case - they probably have a file (certificate) on your computer the access the mail from a secure server. It was setup when your account was set up. if using ics

Go get a router SMC is easy to install has build it fire wall still only have one ip and then also check isp for netmail settings or something similar it might give different info

ie

initially in settings it outlook express??
it may have said
Account name: anyones name
email account anyone@anywhere.com
in server
this is the important part

it may just say

pop3
incoming : mail
smtp Outgoing: mail

these may need to be more specific ie something like

netmail.uswest.com

check their website and the actual provider - I know swbell utilizes sbcglobal and their site has the infor for specific server information where as sw bells sites does not.

good luck
