“cannot find behost file”

One of our users gets this error message when trying to access an excel document from a network folder. “Cannot find behost file: (mapped folder)document.xls.” The label on the text box containing the message shows pcAnywhere. With pcAnywhere not in session connecting to or connected from another computer/user. He is able to open this file only after opening it from within the Excel application; File / open / (file)

disabling pcAnywhere on the local machine yielded no results. Also this is a secure folder with him and domain admin being the only permitted users.
