I can’t seem to format my C: drive in Windows 2000. I get an error message that says “Cannot Lock The Drive. Volume Is Still In Use.”
I have tried to use the format c: /x command to dismount the drive before it tries to format it, that did not work. I tried to boot the computer in safe mode and then tried formatting it, that did not work. I tried opening up the task manager and close all processes that were not vital for the O/S to continue operating normally, and then tried it. It did not work. Does anyone have any other suggestions that may work so that I can format this drive. It is a Dell Laptop running Windows 2000 with a 800 mhz Pentium III and 128 megs of Ram, not like it matters.
