2 cd roms; e: f: both sony

I am trying to install the sony drivers for my f: cd r/w. When I put the cd in either e: or f: and click on that drive , I get the old "illegal operation" error.

I just reformatted hard drive and reinstalled windows 98 se..

I cannot install any of my other programs until i get this resolved.

You need to use a Windows 98 startup disk which will have generic cd rom drivers

Check the Internet at to download starup disk or cd-rom drivers.

Check the internet for MSCDEX.exe files.

It sounds like the cd drivers need to be reinstalled. If you have the windows disk, try going to device manager and uninstalling the drive, scan for changes and let it reinstall the drivers (or reboot). That should reload the generic drivers so that you can continue.
