Cannot Install Windows XP

By playsguitars ·
I built a new home system to play some games and do some work on. This system contains:

Corsair 550w PSU
ASUS M4A78 PRO Motherboard
AMD Athlon X2 Black Edition (2.71Ghz)
2 G Corsair XMS DDR2 RAM (800mhz)
Nvidia 8800GT
Various case fans
WD 320 HDD

I'm using an old hard drive to install a fresh copy of Win on the PC. Everytime I try to boot up the Windows XP CD and re-format the drive, i get an error 'file pci.sys caused an unexpected error (4096) at line 5964 in \xpsprtm\base\boot\setup\setup.c. Press any key to continue.' I've disabled all power management, usb support, and the proprietary 'cool 'n quiet' asus programs controlled by the bios to no avail. please, i'm at a complete loss as i can't install my OS of choice!

The CD is a bit scratched up, though it reads just fine in other computers. I know my CD ROM drive is OK. I don't know where to get another CD from if that's the case.

Turns out i found another xp CD laying around!! And it booted up, no problems, and am formatting the drive as i post this. On another note, i don't believe the CD that I had contained all the files that it should have as the new one took longer to boot and loaded much more files than the previous. THANKS! You made my day! I never thought a scratched CD could cause so many problems!
