Cannot Install WinNT on Adaptec-19160 wi

By mg ·
System:
PIII-700Mhz on a ASUS P3V133
1 IBM-HD DDYS-T36950
ADAPTEC 19160 Contrl.

i try to install NT4 and can't boot from the SCSI-HDD.

HDD-Layout
1st part. (2GB)
PRIM-DOS PART 2GB:
C: FAT16: Boot
2nd part.
EXT-DOS Part. (32GB)
FAT32: W95 Data
E: NTFS: for NT

I boot the NT-CD-ROM and while showing the blue bootscreen, i press F6 to add the SCSI-driver from the "adaptec Ultra160 family manager set" disk. works.
after this, i tell NT-setup where to put winnt to (E:). works again.
nt-setup installs the mini-nt correctly (also bootsector and loader)

after this i reboot and nt is booting from my SCSI-HDD BUT:

After displaying "NTDETECT 4.0...." i get the following Error:

TRAP 0000000E================= PAGE FAULT =========

The Boot.ini and Adaptec Driver named as NTBOOTDD.SYS is correctly installed.

greetz: FLEX !

ps: It's NO Termination, cabling, or jumper error (W95 is fine). No Messages like that please !

Cannot Install WinNT on Adaptec-19160 wi

This is take directly from Adaptec's website. They have a workaround for your particular card. the website address is http://www.adaptec.com/support/overview/asc19160.html I hope it helps.

Install Tip for Windows NT4
The installation processrelies on automatic detection of the controller to load the correct driver. While performing the first reboot, the detection process cannot find a valid drive controller and results in a STOP: 0x0000007B error message.

Workarounds:
CD install: As soon as the blue screen appears and NT starts the hardware configuration check, specify the type of SCSI controller by pressing the F6 key to stop the process. You are then prompted to search for the driver from diskette. Use the supplied diskette or the file U160WNT.EXE (expanded).

An alternative is to use the diskette install. Create the install diskette set using the procedure on Microsoft's kbase. Copy the new driver ADPU160M.SYS to Disk 3, and then install NT.

Have you tried doing the diskette install? It almost sounds like to me your e: is formated in fat32. And when NT reboots and tries to load it doesn't know what to do with it.
I would suggest.
1. creating the boot disks winnt /Ox
2. run fdisk and delete your e drive
3. boot off the floppies and recreate the partition using NTFS during the install.

I've seen something similar to this and that was how I got around the issue. You will still have to install your SCSI drivers during theinstall off of floppy.

Try unplugging you CD drive. I've had that problem once. For some reason WinNT assumed that the CD drive was unit D.

winnt does not recognize my cdrom at this point (driver is loading times later). there seems to be no workaround for my prob.

i have found the only working configuration on my own:

1. NO NTFS Partition :-o
2. NO 29GB Drive as Drive :-(((
3. MADE 2 FAT16 (uaaaahhh) partitons AS C: and
4. PUT a 30GB Partition as drive E:
5. Mailed adaptec to correct their U160-Driver (still in contact with adaptec support)
6. still worried a little bit.

Thank you for your responses, guys...
CU.

Flex.
