I have a computer running W98 and a AMD K6 2 400 cpu with 64 Mb RAM. The original video card failed and the client upgraded to a GeForce 2 MX 32 MB card. There was a conflict and the system kept locking up. I removed the old drivers and replaced that card with a Creative 3D Balster Savage 4, the system locked up even worse. I removed the drivers again and replaced it with a Diamond S3 Virge /GX2. This card worked fine, however I now have the OS looking for a file at start from one of the other cards and gives me the error message
AWE 64 MIDI Synthesizer cannot load deafault synthesizer bank ** cannot open synthgm.sf2**. I also was getting one for a file named synthgm.sbk but was able to find this with find files and delete the reference to it. I have done reg /restore, find files, msconfig and looked in win.ini, autoexec and config.sys. Stopped start menu items. I have run Norton Utilities Win Doctor and reg clean. I would like some more ideas if you have any.
