Cannot login to Windows 2k domain

By treebk ·
I have a LAN with Win 2k as PDC but clients are mixture of Win 2K,Win NT and Win98. The problems is i cannot log in with win 2k clients and the error generated is "there is no loggon servers to service request" but i can ping them from every where. But with Windows NT there s no problem. I have put Service pack 4 in the win2k ican see where the problems is from.

First, I'd try restarting all DC's.

If that doesn't fix it, check for spyware / adware / trojans / virii

If that doesn't fix it, check the client netlogon service.

If that doesn't fix it, dig deeper. Are you using static IP addresses or DNS? Maybe the WINS server address is incorrect in the clients' TCP/IP settings?

Do the Win 2k clients have computer accounts in the W2K Domain? Not user accounts, but computer accounts.

Check name resolution first - DNS if set up needs DC services registration. If WINS, need to see that the 1C entries are registered for clients to connect to DCs upon logon.

Last - check secure channels - nltest /sc_query:domainname /server:computername

If this fails, regardless of top two, you will not be able to logon. Reset channels or remove and add computer(s) back into the domain.
