Cannot logon new user

I have created a new user account of the PDC, but when I try to log that user in, I get an error message that "logon name or password is not correct..." I have created the user on the local machine, which was a PDC that went off line and I had to demote to a BDC and never promoted back to PDC. Is that my problem? I've tried just about all I could think of, setting no p/w, creating simple p/w.
Another possiblity is that on the new PDC, under server manager it lists this machine as a workstation, not as a backup. My next step is to re-install NT and only install as WS. Thanks for any help!! Roger

If you created the user on the local computer and not in the domain then that is your problem....log on locally. You'll have to change the bottom prompt at the login screen to the local machine instead of the domain.

So, is the original PDC now a BDC and the original BDC now a PDC? How long was the PDC demoted for? I guess I would try to demote the PDC that was a BDC back to a BDC and then promote the BDC that was the PDC to a PDC. Then I would try to resnyc the domain, so that everyone has the correct SAM database. If the one machine that is now showing up as a Workstation in Server Manager, is really a BDC, then that machine is not even registering on the network, which means that it might be out of sync as in it's password. Check the Event Log, and also check technet for a solution to resyncing the passwords between a BDC and PDC so that they will register as such. The program that you will need is called NETDOM.EXE There are some starting points. Hope this helps?
