Cannot open .exe files

Hi

Windows 2000 – I cannot open any .exe files. Seems that I can open any other file. Just not .exe’s. I have scanned the pc with three different virus programs and it comes up clean. The error I get is:

Not a valid win32 application

Started happening when I tried to open a file using media player.

I dunno…any tips – please…
