I've just tried to install Windows XP Pro and everything went fine until it got to "checking disks". When it got to 50% my PC froze and when I re-started, XP tried to install again... until the 50% and froze again. Now I have cancelled the install and gone into my drive, to find some of my folders are no longer a folder and are now just a file.
CHKDSK both before the install and now say no errors on the drive
Is there anyway I can get my folders back?
Thanks for any help.

It's been a while since I installed XP but I thought it did the disk check (and the conversion to NTFS) very early in the install. Were the folders created in a previous O/S? Ontrack makes a product called EasyRecovery. It's pretty easy to use and very good.
