cannot open Quark Express file normally

I run my pc on win2000 professional, and use an application named quark express the extension of the files are .qwp.
the problem is that the icons of these files appear like that of the wordpad files and whenever i doubleclick to open the file it says it is not a valid win32 application.
if i right click and select “open with” , the quark express application icon does not appear in the menu, then i select other programs and select quark, then the files open but the problem is that even after i select the option that says “always use this program to open such files” the .qwp files icons look like that of wordpad and gives the same error.
