One of the biggest mistakes that people make is thinking that "I can change my old hardrive into a new machine." This works some of the time, but most of the time it will not. Non-MS partitions appear to mean that this disk probally came from a computer with a dual boot system with NT, Linux or some other OS that is residing on the hardrive.

Boot the computer into dos (using the boot disk) and run fdisk and see if you can see the partitions and drives. If not, I suggest that you find a buddy that has Partition Magic (at least 5.0 or better)or a similar program and have them boot your system off of the PM boot disks. Western ditigal and Segate also has programs that will let you set up a drive. You can change anything that you wantusing any of these programs (size, file system type, etc). I am afraid to inform you that you will more than likely have to reinstall 98 as 98 relies on BIOS information to set up the hardware.

Good Luck!

Paul

This calls for a re-install on the PC where the hard drive is currently connected.

Go ahead--fdisk, reformat the drive and re-install Win98!

(Please let me know if you find a way out without reintalling though.) :)
