Cannot REjoin a server to a domain

    Locked

    by jimbobthomas ·

    Hello,

We have a client domain, housing two Win2K servers which had been having problems talking to each other. We removed one of the servers from the domain, leaving the PDC online but now are not able to rejoin the domain with our second server. Both machines can ping each other and trusts between the two are all correct. Netlogon will not run on the second server, any ideas?

Make the offline server member of a workgroup first, then try to join the domain. I’ve seen this happen a few times with W2K.

as above, but also use the admin tool – Active Directory Users & Computers from a workstation of server still in the domain (be logged in as an administrator) .Right-click on the name of the computer you split off into a workgroup and choose “Reset Account” Now you should be able to re-join the domain with out issues over the server’s name. Hope this helps.

Thank you for this, we still seem to have a problem with the DNS settings so we are removing both machine from the domain and until we have found the solution are placing them in a workgroup with trust’s set up between the two.
