Cannot remove W98 mapped drives

By Choppit ·
Have a number of W95 PCs which have drive mappings which I want to remove permanently. (All problem PCs were created from an image). PCs in question are connected to heterogenous network (Netware 5.1/NT 4 Domain). Primary login and scripts are executed by Novell client. If the mappings are removed using the Windows disconnect option they return when the system is logged back in. The mappings are not in the Novell login script as other users in the same container do not have this problem.

I believe there are three possible login scripts that run when you log into Novell server. One of these scripts does not run if using ms client for netware, where as Novells client will run all login scripts. You didn't mention which client the Win95 pcs were using. I believe if you look in control panel there is an network icon that contains the check box for enabling login scripts. Turn it off there.

There are a couple possible sources for login scripts in NetWare, whcih means it's possible for different users to execute different scripts.

However. Win9x also has the ability to connect to network drives from Network Neighborhood, and when themapping is made, there's an option to "reconnect at logon". Basically, this makes the mappng permanent for that workstation.

Often, when I see this, I cure it by unplugging the network cable, then botting the computer. The boot process will take a little longer, but any permanent mapping will pop up a dialog box saying it couldn't find the resource, and giving you the option whether to try to connect in the future. Disable that, and it goes away permanently.

These permanent connectionscan be removed by editing the registry, but I don't remember the keys.
