Cannot see local group when trying to add it to a network share permission.

On Win NT4 Server I have created a local group but when I try and add it to the security access permission on a folder share it is not visible.
On the PDC and BDC I can see the local group when I try and add it to a folder but on a share on the file and print server it just does not appear.
I have tried syncing the entire domain and restarted the server…
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
