Cannot see my "D" drive in windows 98 ?

By edgar_morales ·
I cannot see my "D" drive in windows 98 se.. I made an extended and a logical partition in F-disk .. After I made the new partition, I formatted the "D" drive and rebooted .. I can see the new partition in dos and in F-disk and it shows the correct info like :FAT 32, and the correct partition size .. But in " my computer" in windows, I cannot see the "D" drive .. Any ideas how to correct this problem ..

Return to FDISK and check the C:/drive to see if you have this drive marked as active on primary partition, the other thing I would see happening is that you have the drive compressed.

I'm assuming the drive was being seen before. Try to go into Safe Mode. If not your not familiar with Safe Mode you can get to it by restarting your computer in DOS and at the command prompt type "win /d:m" without the quotations. Once in Safe Mode go to Device Manager and remove the CDROM then reboot.

You have partitioned the disk drive in DOS, and the partition may not be recognised by Windows. For a change, if you want both DOS and Windows 98 SE to recognise it, use Partition Magic. It is a better program, and Windows will recognise this partition.

Hope this helps!

Thanks,
This worked ..
I used partition magic 4.01 , and rebooted .. I can now see the "d" drive after the new partition was made with PM 4.01..
